Thank you for your interest in volunteering for my Congressional campaign. I'm always amazed by the strength and power in the new communications tools, which have both connected us together in this effort and enable you to reach out directly to voters in my part of the country.

The stakes are high in my race; I'm running against two career politicians, carpetbaggers from outside of our district, guys that will say anything to get your vote, Tom McClintock and Doug Ose. Ose is big-government all the way, having voted for record deficits and bills such as the Patriot Act while serving in another district. McClintock has re-cast himself as a libertarian in this race (one who supported Fred Thompson and not Ron Paul!) but McClintock has long been associated with oppressive social conservatism, and has been a divisive figure in our state, driving folks away from the GOP and losing four elections in his career. I'm playing to win and can beat them; I'm focusing on our rich Californian Gold Country heritage, something the other two ignore, as they're not from the area. Mainstream media outside of the district has been doing their best to ignore me, but I've been on the cover of many of the small town papers, in areas where the carpetbaggers are hated by the public for their ties to big government.

Again, I'm playing to win. My fourth TV commercial is about to air; I've already printed more than a quarter million glossy, color newspaper inserts; we've been sending out mass emails to voters in the district; I have the most compelling web presence of any of my opponents; I'm about to send out a mass mailing; yard signs are up throughout the district; I have folks like you volunteering to help. The marketing has been successful enough that people are recognizing me on the street in small towns I visit on the campaign trail.

Action plan: 2/3rds of the voters in my district vote via absentee ballot in the primary. The absentee ballots go out May 5th. About a third of them come back immediately. Another third come back later in May. The final third of the votes come at the polls on June 3rd. So schedule your calling accordingly. It's better to call early in May than at the beginning of June. The big focus of the calls should be: 1. to build name recognition; 2. let local folks here know that people like you are paying attention from around the country and volunteering for free (you're not hired by big money); and 3. to drive people to my website, terbocongress.org, which outshines the competition.
